Winter Goddess Message: Balance Your Writing

goddess oracle cards

Hello, beautiful creative soul!

The energy of this month’s reading focuses on self-love and balance in your writing projects as the holiday season goes underway. Often during this time of year things turn quite busy and even chaotic, pulling us in all different directions, and it’s easy to feel ungrounded and unfocused.

I chose Stacey Demarco’s gorgeous oracle deck, Goddesses and Sirens, for this reading—I absolutely love the stunning imagery of the Divine Feminine on these cards!

The first card that came out was that of Andromache (Strength). The artwork depicts Andromache in the midst of a battle cry and already springing into action. I immediately received a beautiful download, an energy that was fierce, feminine, and bold.

Andromache goddess oracle card

In Greek mythology, Andromache is the queen of the Amazons, a tribe of fierce warrior women who fight upon horseback and are fearless in battle. She’s also known as Queen Hippolyta. (There’s another Andromache in Greek myth, who was the wife of prince Hector in the Trojan war, but that’s a story for another time!)

Andromache represents the balance between the feminine and masculine energies within each of us. According to myth, she receives the Greek warrior Herakles onto the shores of her homeland and even freely offers her war belt to him but later, due to a terrible misunderstanding, ends up fighting him. There’s a melding of feminine and masculine energies at play here with this combination of receptivity and strong boundary setting.

Andromache asks you the following: how might you harmonize the feminine and masculine energies within your writing? You might find yourself being pulled away from your regular writing schedule during this busy season. Feelings of guilt or frustration may come up, but instead of blaming yourself for not doing more, can you find compassion for yourself instead? It’s okay to do less, to have fun, and to enjoy yourself!

You are totally worth it. One hundred percent!

Allow yourself to prioritize your health—with plenty of rest and good food—and keep writing when you can. As long as you are still continuing to make baby steps forward, divine timing will allow everything else to fall perfectly into place. Setting boundaries with your time and energy will let you feel much more relaxed and at peace.

The second card that revealed itself was Vesta (Home). Vesta is the Roman goddess of the hearth and home.

Usually Vesta isn’t represented anthropomorphically (she’s generally symbolized by the sacred fire of the hearth), so I love how this goddess is portrayed here in human form, and in such a feminine and powerful way. She holds a trident in the image—a symbol of dominion often wielded by Neptune, god of the sea.

Vesta often represents dedication and commitment. Her temple in ancient Rome contained a hearth, and within it a sacred flame that never went out. It was tended to constantly so that its fire always burned. This flame also connects to the sacred space of the home, a place where we can relax and become centered and grounded.

The energy of Vesta urges you to prepare a creative space for yourself at home before the full flow of the holiday season. For example, this might mean organizing the desk where you write, or the room where you paint, dance, or make music. Another idea might be to bring in elements from nature—such as fresh flowers, plants, or stones—to infuse your workspace with the grounding energy of the earth.

By creating a sanctuary for your art, you’ll be able to keep the sacred flame of your creativity burning. You can retreat to it whenever you like and feel relaxed and happy while there, especially in the midst of a hectic schedule. It will also help you keep a commitment to continuing on with your writing when you don’t have much extra time.

The important thing is to be very gentle with yourself—there’s no need to feel guilty! Simply go with the flow and enjoy the time you have in your beautiful space.

The third card that I pulled was Gaia (Creation)—the perfect final card for this reading! I believe it’s a fantastic confirmation of the importance of a connection to creativity for you during this time.

Goddess Gaia oracle card

Gaia is a great mother goddess, the Greek goddess of Earth and nature and fertility. She brings forth new life in living beings, and also in new artistic creations! She’s the pure expression of creativity itself, and its beautiful pulse that flows through all of us.

The description in the guidebook of Stacey Demarco’s oracle deck explains this perfectly:

“You are creative in every way. There are no barriers to constant, consistent creation. Allow yourself to create in joy, not because of pressure. Connect more deeply with the earth.”

A big YES to creating because of joy! Not because you feel like you have to, but because it feels good to do so.

Overall, this is a gorgeous reading to inspire you to continue to nurture your creative projects if you feel called to do so during this super busy time before the holidays.

The energies of Andromache, Vesta, and Gaia are encouraging you to find the balance of work, play, and rest so you can continue to create what your soul desires most!

Ideas for connecting to your feminine energy:

·      Prepare a quiet creative sanctuary where you can feel grounded, centered, and nourished. Bring in elements of nature to this space. You can also try some essential flower oils.

·      Prioritize rest and self-care—there’s no need to push yourself to work more or stay up late, etc, if you already have a lot of activities on your plate. Practice self-love and allow things to flow.

·      Let yourself have more fun! If you’re attending more social events and that feels good to you, then go for it! Don’t worry if you’re not writing as much as you normally would. Trust that everything will work itself out!

Ideas for connecting to your masculine energy:

·      Make a commitment to yourself to keep the fires burning on your writing projects, even if that means only working on them a little bit. Even a little is great! Try not to abandon them completely.

·      Keep taking baby steps forward in your writing. Slow and steady allows miracles to occur.

·      Set boundaries for your time and energy. If you want to write more, but you feel pressured to spend time at events, or with friends and family, feel free to say NO to things. Only do what feels good. Or, on the other hand, if you want to spend more time socializing, then do that instead! Let go of any guilt that comes up. Our society puts pressures upon us that we “need to do more.” The truth? You don’t have to! Set boundaries for how much time you spend working. And then go enjoy yourself, you gorgeous goddess!
