My Story:
Hello! I’m Ana.
I’m an author, dancer, and Leo sun. I split most of my time between Tucson, Arizona, and Pula, Croatia, but I’m often traveling the world. I’m a castle enthusiast, and there’s nothing I love more than a little castle hunting, or exploring some ancient ruins!
It all began when I started writing stories as a kid. I used to sit on my bed for hours, writing wacky stories with the quirkiest characters. If I wasn’t at school or writing, I’d be reading or at ballet class or off riding bikes with the neighborhood kids.
Years later, in college, I found myself wrangled into what I thought I should be doing with my life. A scientist, yes! My parents liked it, and I suppose I did, too. I studied biochemistry and classical mythology (where I fell in love with goddess myths), having no idea then that these topics would later be so interwoven in my novels.
After a longish stint of teaching science to middle school students, I switched to a career as a writer and editor at an educational publishing company. During this time I wrote in a variety of genres—science, other nonfiction, and children’s and middle grade fiction. But there was a little voice inside me that kept urging me to explore more. “Write the romance!” it whispered.
So I did. In 2017, I embarked upon the journey of creating fiction in the paranormal and sci fi fantasy genres under several pen names. My love of romantasy was fully unleashed!
I wrote the books. I pushed myself for word count, hit my deadlines, rapid released, and followed every single marketing strategy my PR person recommended. And I sold books—many of them—watching them climb on the charts, excited and grateful for every reader that loved my stories.
And although I absolutely loved my books, the entire process left me burnt out. Exhausted. Entirely disconnected from my body, my joy, my creativity—and the entire reason why I wanted to write in the first place. Something sacred had been lost.
It was a harsh awakening into the reality that writing truly is about the journey, not the destination.
I knew there must be a different way. It wasn’t about not writing the books—it was simply about shifting the process into one that was more nourishing, compassionate, and guided by the heart. One in which the pure magic of creation itself is valued over accomplishments and productivity.
It was about balancing my masculine energy with my feminine energy. Providing structure for forward movement, while also creating the freedom for the words to bloom. For me, this meant honoring both devotion and discipline—structure and softness.
In the time following this, I’ve allowed myself to soften. To write with gentle consistency over speed. I’ve incorporated breathwork, self-care, journaling, and other simple strategies to calm the nervous system and to truly let my body feel safe enough to allow the words to flow.
And I’ve discovered that I’ve never written as fluently and happily as I do now. My new fantasy series is underway—inspired by Greco-Roman mythology, alchemy, and the goddess energy of the Lineage of the Rose—and it’s never felt easier to write.
I feel like I’m me again—that kid on the bed, writing stories because it feels good to do so. (With a lot more romance, of course!)
It was through this journey that I’ve realized my soul purpose isn’t just to write books, but to also share these techniques with other authors. To show that there is a softer way…a beautiful way…in which writing success is still absolutely available!
